The C.A.R.E. Team is a non-profit organization. We are a Canadian-based group of volunteers including Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, Nurses, and Patient Care Support Staff who are committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals who do not have access to healthcare due to economic or social barriers. We are brought together in a belief that we can provide help in the form of access to high quality medical and surgical services by sharing our time, skills, and expertise with those in need.

In doing so, our goal is to improve the overall health of individuals and families in any area of society whose population is in need of medical care.
Our first medical project took place in Antigua, Guatemala in July 2015. During one week, we provided gynecological and general surgery care to 58 people in need. Many of our patients are members of the local Mayan population that has been historically disenfranchised and under-serviced. Our upcoming trip to Antigua will take place between July 10-15, 2016 and we expect to undertake 65 operations.

These operations require a significant amount of supplies, equipment and medication, not to mention access to diagnostic and medical imaging. Of course we also need access to a hospital facility and surgical suites as well as postoperative wards and care facilities. There is so much that is needed on a daily basis: surgical drapes, gloves, sponges, sutures, and medications – such as, anesthetics, analgesics, and antibiotics. The list is lengthy, but together with your support and generous donations we can make a difference!
